Pain and an increasing restriction of mobility in the first metatarsophalangeal joint during rolling motion are usually associated with arthrosis, i.e. wear and tear of the joint.
Conservative treatment
In the early stages, a suitable insole stiffened under the big toe can provide relief.
Surgical treatment
If pain increases despite conservative therapy, the following surgical options are available:
1. "Cleaning" the joint
The x-ray below shows arthrosis of the first metatarsophalangeal joint. The joint space in the first metatarsophalangeal joint is no longer visible.
2. Fusion with screws
Despite fusion of the joint, an almost normal rolling motion is possible. The fusion also allows almost all sports activities.
The choice of procedure depends on several factors. Make an appointment with us. We will discuss the treatment options with you.
